I really dig the composition, but I have to say I kind of wish that harp sounded closer to an acoustic harp. Otherwise, really sweet piece, thanks!

banander responds:

Absolutely, and thank you for the input! I've been trying to create an instrument that sounds as close as possible to the harp font from Final Fantasy VI (which imo sounds fairly acoustic) but have been struggling to figure out how the sound programmers at Square made it sound so good. I think for this one I sampled one of the SC8820 harps and ran it through EQ to try to get a similar tone, but at the cost of sounding a bit tinny and buzzy. I will definitely keep this in mind going forward. Thanks a bunch!

I think crushing everything so much for the entire piece is a mistake. I would lighten that distortion up as the melody builds until about 1:20, then I'd blast it with a clear eq, plenty of compression, and heavy drums...sounds like you've got the drums ready, just take that distortion down over time and this is beautiful.

Sighyanide responds:

Hey man! Thanks for the feedback! I agree - I myself am growing a bit tired of the distortion. My reason for using it at all was because, without it, the samples themselves sounded so mediocre and weak (particularly the drums), and I'm not too good at finding a sweet spot for the EQ.

But you're right - I really should step out of my comfort zone. I've been using this same go-to for about a year now. Trying can't hurt. Hopefully you'll return in the future. That was a solid comment. Thanks again!

It reminds me a bit of an Avicii, who i want you to know I hold in high regard. His melodies always bring a smile to my face and a warm feeling of belonging to my heart - just as this has done. Thank you, cheers!

RiSUKU responds:

Haha, no problem man :)

Feels like mega-man just got done with a heavy night of clubbin in the Casino Night Zone and is takin a ride through the city - good stuff!

OpenLight responds:

Thanks!

props dude.

I can't help it, there's not really anything particularly impressive here (aside from the singing, double props on that) but I give you respect for the humor. Frkin hilarious, i can't help but laugh when I listen to this. Plus, being high + opera singing + classical piano = mass hilarity. I wanna go ride my bike now, lolz.

JPRixdorfer responds:

So you saw what I did there? Great! It's wonderful this little thing actually makes people laugh. I was a little afraid you guys would go "the fuck is that?!" and bomb it right away. So props to newgrunds, I guess.

Now I'm starting to think if I should do more like that: kinda like 19th century songs with hilarious lyrics. It was so much fun doing this and I get lots of benevolent reviews for that. Also nobody else is doing it.

Pretty good stuff.

Personally, I think you could drop the first whole minute of the track and give the song alot more appeal. After the 1 min mark it really turns into something nice. Kinda reminds me of a sonic song; really dig the distorted lead around 2 min too. Very well put together, if a bit long and bulky. Good work! :)

Theman1178 responds:

Thanks! Actually, I was already re-making the song under a new name "Lightriders" because my friends thought there was quite a bit more to add and I agree (I use my friends as first-hand reviewers for my music). Thanks for the review, I'll drop the first minute in lightriders as one of the changes and see how i can re-work it.

Wow!

Great acoustic guitar work, the solo is pretty grooving too...would've liked to hear some better mastering, but ignoring that, it's a great piece. Good work!

Jayson420 responds:

Thank you very much man I appreciate that a lot. I make all my music in my bedroom with just a regular dynamic mic and I'm still learning, but thank you man i love too hear feedback

Exellent!

Love it! Smooth and flowing, this piece has a classic house/club feel, but its so fleshed out it feels so much more professional and complete than most of the crap I've been browsing through lately. Love the short chords at 1:30, and your whole progression is interesting and complete, love the sidechaining...whole production is perfectomundo! Props!

Qelaion responds:

Thanks man. I really tried to get a more professional sounding feel out of this song, glad to see it came through! :P

Glad you love those chords, I tried to get a somewhat non-generic chord progression fit into this, i'm happy it hasn't disappointed anyone yet :D

Thanks again!

Totally dig it!

Dramatic and epic! Frkin lovely! East/west you say? I will have to investigate these samples, mwuahaha! They sound awesome! 0.0 Super cinematic and ultimate man...I really dig the marracas? that shakey thing that comes in every once in a while, that is a really nice touch! And the choir thing, amateur as it sounds, is composed wonderfully! Very perfect melodies, piano touches are wonderful! SO many little touches little details, it all really comes together extremely well! Your swell up to 1:05 and the breakout after is amazing! Great piece man! Greatness!

Step responds:

Hey thanks :3.

"Dramatic and epic! Frkin lovely! East/west you say? I will have to investigate these samples, mwuahaha!"

Oh, you should! East/West doesn't come cheap but it has been by far the investment that was worth it the most music-wise. I feel like I'm owning an orchestra with that VST.

"They sound awesome! 0.0"

Yup, the East/West samples are recorded from real instruments. Really makes a difference!

"Super cinematic and ultimate man..."

Ultimate, huh? :D Thanks! You're making me feel like continuing this song now, but I know I can't since it's so old and I lost its project file...

"I really dig the marracas? that shakey thing that comes in every once in a while, that is a really nice touch!"

That shakey thing is indeed a maraca. I like using shakers/maracas in my orchestral/soundtrack songs.

"And the choir thing, amateur as it sounds, is composed wonderfully!"

Thank you :3. That choir comes from East/West and I love its sound. I used it in like 3 of my submissions so far, lol.

"Very perfect melodies, piano touches are wonderful! SO many little touches little details, it all really comes together extremely well! Your swell up to 1:05 and the breakout after is amazing!"

Those points are some of the reasons why I wish I could continue this. All the little details make a pretty good atmosphere and if my computer hadn't died I would've probably finished this song by now...

"Great piece man! Greatness!"

Appreciate the review, many thanks :D.

fuckin cool!

Dude, love the ambiance! So much better than the original! I have this theory about remixing; if you're not going to improve on the original it shouldn't be done. This is clearly a great improvement on my work! I really like the arps you used (instead of the sytrus ones I did) and the added drama with the crashes and heavy drums are amazing! I really like it alot, you did a superb job! I'm honored that you chose to remix one of my works! Thats awesome! Thank you! :)

DarkShadow166 responds:

Wow thanks a lot! It's a big shame this is unfinished - I loved how the intro was turning out but when the drum beat kicked in at 0:41 I think it lost all of its potential and I really don't know how to improve it, unfortunately.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
