Wicked!

Fucking wicked piece man! I love it when the...third? guitar comes in at 2:49, it just gets more awesome from there. Love the stomp riffs, and the drums are great IMO. Great track, super-wicked! 5/5

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

There are only 2 guitars throughout the entire song, and they're both playing the same thing all the way through.

But I'm glad you like it!

Im a douche

I like the tempo changes, they add an extra sense of drama, and the chord variations seem slightly different from the original. Also, it's superbly mixed. This is a great song, brings back so many memories of Tidus and Yuna...oi vey, what an engrossing relationship that was. But there's one thing I can't get over; the left-hand part being so loud...like your left hand is tied to a weight. Im sorry dude, i gotta knock it down a notch for that, if for no other reason than the fact that very often I'm guilty of the same mistake and I would kick myself in the nads for it. 4/5 8/10 Just be glad I'm not going to kick you in the nads :-P Superb piece, awesome mix, nicely done.

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

Yeah, it's because the fingers on my left hand are stronger than they are on the right, left hand being my fretting hand on guitar and all. It's something I've been actively working on, hitting notes harder with my right, and softer with my left.

Thanks for the review.

On the contrary!

In contrast to the previous reviewer, I think your mix is too complete. If this was an 8bit track, it'd be fucking amazing! Sometimes, an embracement of limitation is just exactly what a song needs, and I think this piece an example of that. Its composition is so emaculate and intricate that it begs to be a chip tune in my ears, except for the rev-boom at 0:20. That was nicely executed, perfectly fit, and it gives a good dynamic to the piece in it's current state. If it were me though, this would totally be a chiptune. Nice work!

The-iMortal responds:

Lol, thanks for the review. However, I must say I'm not a fan when it comes to producing 8-bit audio, so don't expect any 8-bit from me!

Groovy!

Keeps me content, very nice feeling. Particularly intriguing is the introduction. Is everything reversed? It seems really odd in such a way that I'd assume reverse samples were used for the wind sounding instrument.

I really like the structure and the melody throughout. It's simple and grooving, but it gets the point across and does so stylistically and in an interesting way. I wouldnt say it was missing anything...except a proper mastering job. It sounds like your drums and the lower stringed line (maybe a cello or contrabass) are getting in the way of your texture and causing some overdrive.

In this instance, if you lack a proper mastering VST like iZotope, I would recommend dropping every individual track down very low, then running a compressor on the master track. Give it a short attack, not instantaneous but short, and a slow release, not infinite but slow, and pump the gain so everything comes up together. Drop volume on the lower tones and raise the higher ones up until you don't have that static anymore. Easiest thing is to use mastering presets; find one that fits your preference, and maybe tweak it a little...[i.e. use the browser in FL Studio to hunt down "general mastering presets", then drag them one at a time from the browser into the mixer on the master track. Try a bunch until you find one that you like best].

Nice work, great concept. Keep it up man

Refreshment responds:

Only the... weird reverse sound is reversed haha. Thanks for the review. I'll check out iZotope, you've mentioned it quite a bit today. Thanks!

Wicked!

Classic, drop D! W00t! Would you be mad if I tried to cover this with a metal band? o.0 One minor issue...the bells...Bigger bigger bigger, more verb, longer delay, less midrange in the EQ. They still sound like they're coming out of a keyboard. They dont have to.... :-P

The-iMortal responds:

I totally agree with you on the bells, mate. That was one thing I was thinking to myself in hindsight, "Eh..."

And of course you can cover it. You don't need permission, bro - this is Newgrounds! Just make sure you PM me the link, whether or not you submit it here.

Thanks for the review!

Not quite finished

Sounds like accompaniment to me. It needs a rap, it needs a melody, and it needs a serious master track. Moreover, you just got the same chords again and again, and don't even bother to break up the riff at all. My greatest advice, and you can toss every piece of bullshit I've ever said aside for this one, is map your songs out like a journey or a blueprint. Know where you're going before you get there, so the transition is smooth and the flow is maintained.

Give me an AABA or ABBA ABAC or what have you, that'll be a great step in the right direction. Next, drop a melody, a real one. Sit down behind a keyboard, grab a guitar, a kazoo, anything that is actually designed to create music; not your computer keyboard and mouse. Hum a melody if nothing else. This is great backing, but it's emptiness comes from a lack of leadership and direction in the sound. This would be complete with a talented rap artist laying something ontop of it. And so, 9/10 5/5

Refreshment responds:

That's a great response, I don't think I check it last time... and I apologize for that. I can see where you're coming from and I know the "amateur-sound" still lurks in this song. Thanks for slapping me in the face with some truth!

This is some good shit.

You know, I've been seeing alot of crap on the best of the week and the best of all time lately. This however, stands apart from that crap. This is an excellent piece, and I envy the skill and forethought that obviously stands behind it. Excellent singing, excellent mixing & mastering, excellent composition. 5/5 10/10

It's great!

I think you did a great job man. The breakout near the end totally blew my mind, awesomeness!

Adjeye responds:

Thanks :)

As always, fucking awesome!

You've got the best metal on newgrounds dude, no doubt. This is some awesome shit! Skilled, dramatic and beautifully constructed. You need to be selling CDs if you are not sir, this is greatness!

Metaljonus responds:

Haha, thanks dude! I would'nt say the best since there is a ton of great musicians on this site. Thanks for the review and listening!

This is great work.

It's simplicity is great, I love the way it evolves as it goes. I'd love to hear it finished out.

WizMystery responds:

It's pretty much done now - posting this in case you're still interested in checking.
